Dagmar's Necklace Pattern adapted ...

The necklace is done.  

I chose to use some blue & purple beads in lieu of the leaves.   

Tape Lace from Slovakia

At the Doris Southard Lace Guild retreat in Dubuque in October, Dagmar Beckel Machykova taught tape laces from Slovakia.  Several of us chose to work on a variation that is designed to be a neck piece.  I used Lizbeth #40 for my tape lace.

I used Lizbeth #40 for my tape lace. Dagmar's model has linen tape lace and metal leaves.   Dagmar also provided a bracelet pattern.

Drawing Idrija Patterns

My OIDFA class this summer was at Idrija, Slovenia.  We stayed about half an hour away in Cerkno.  The teacher was Maja Svetlik who has drawn lace diagrams for many publications on Idrija lace.  The class included exercises to learn to create our own designs as well as how to create diagrams for Idrija style lace.  During the final morning of class we visited Maja's office to see how she uses Corel Draw.  Her demonstration answered some of my questions that I have had for a long time.

When I returned home I was able to take one of my pencil drawings and transfer it into the computer and create a pattern for lace.  I used some Kreinik Ombre that I was given long ago for the passives.  I used a combination linen and metal thread that I bought from Bart & Francis several years ago for the weavers.  I used Delica beads instead of leaves and added more Delicas to trim the edges of the tape.











In August I made a second motif for a hostess gift to a lace making friend.  I another linen & metal thread for the weavers and silver thread for the passives with silvery gray Delica beads.
